Worsening Power Crisis in Jammu and Kashmir Sparks Concern Among Consumers

Jammu and Kashmir is grappling with a deepening power crisis, leaving consumers to endure extended power outages during the day. Authorities have reassured that discussions are underway to address this issue, promising improved conditions in the coming days.

However, local consumers have a different story to tell. They claim that the power situation has deteriorated significantly across the valley, with just 4-5 hours of electricity being supplied daily. This situation is occurring even as smart meters have been installed in nearly half of Srinagar city, with the promise of round-the-clock power supply.

Irate consumers are expressing their frustration, stating that the erratic power supply over the past two weeks has caused them great hardship. They had hoped for an improvement in the power scenario after the installation of smart meters and the enhancement of power infrastructure over the last four years. However, their expectations have been dashed, just as winter is approaching in Kashmir.

Javed Yousuf Dar, the Chief Engineer of the Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL), stated that the government is actively seeking solutions to the power scarcity issue in J&K. Talks are underway with organizations like NTPC to secure additional electricity for the region. The aim is to alleviate the current electricity situation.

Regarding the present electricity scenario, Chief Engineer Dar mentioned that reduced precipitation in previous months has led to lower water levels in reservoirs, impacting power generation at major powerhouses. However, he assured that efforts are underway to resolve the issue within a few days.

Consumers in Jammu and Kashmir are hopeful that these talks and efforts will lead to a swift resolution of the worsening power crisis, ensuring a more comfortable winter ahead.
