PoJK refugees want govt to implement relief package

PoJK refugees want govt to implement relief packageThe Pakistan-occupied Jammu & Kashmir Front today sought implementation and final settlement of relief component announced by the Central Government for the displaced comm-unity members.
The front warned of agitation if the Central and state governments continues to discriminate with the community.
Led by president Rachpal Singh Chib, protesters claimed that then Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee had sanctioned a financial package of Rs 112 crore in 2000 for the rehabilitation of the refugees from Mirpur, Bhimber, Kotli, Deva, Watala, Chamb, Nah, Manawar and Muzaffarbad after 1947, but the package has not been fully implemented till now.
“The then Provincial Rehabilitation Officer, Jammu, started the process for implementing one out of the four components. However, it was started without mandatory notification and more than Rs 50 crore were disbursed through illegal channels,” alleged Chib.
He said refugees from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir had supported the BJP in parliamentary and Assembly elections and results proved that they had the strength to change the political scenario in the state.
The front also demanded that 8 to 12 Assembly seats and two Legislative Council seats be reserved for the community.
It further sought demanded reservation in professional institutions of the state and five per cent seats in the Central Government-run technical and professional institutions. The front has also been seeking two development boards for the refugees, including those displaced in 1947, 1965 and 1971.
