Kashmir is likely to get a relief from hot weather conditions as the Metrological department Saturday forecasted light rains between July 20 and 21 while its main activity would be Monday evening.
Director Meteorological Department, Srinagar, Sonam Lotus told Kashmir InFocus that they were expecting light rains in scattered places of Kashmir from Monday till Tuesday afternoon.
“We are expecting a good spell of rains to occur at most places of Jammu, scattered places of Kashmir and at isolated places of Ladakh regions between July 20 and 21 with main activity on Monday night,” he said.
As per the weatherman, the spell would likely bring relief from hot weather conditions in the Valley.
In next 24 hours, there are chances of isolated to scattered light rain, thundershowers in J&K while mainly dry in the Ladakh region.
“There would be some respite from the heat as day temperature during the next two to three days was expected to drop a few degrees Celsius,” the weatherman said. “The temperature will rise again toward the end of this month.”
The official said the summer capital of Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 31.8 degrees Celsius on Saturday and minimum temperature of 18.8 degrees Celsius.
The ski-resort of Gulmarg in Baramulla district remained the coldest station of the Valley recording 23.8 degrees Celsius maximum temperature while the minimum temperature was recorded at 13.5 degrees.
The maximum temperatures in Jammu city settled at 37 degree Celsius and minimum at 27 degree Celsius.
South Kashmir’s Kokernag recorded the maximum temperature of 29.8 degree Celsius, Pahalgam 29.6 degree Celsius and Qazigund 32.2 degree Celsius.
Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded the maximum temperatures of 33.8 degree Celsius and minimum temperature of 17.2 degree Celsius.
On July 2, Srinagar recorded the season’s hottest day temperatures of 33.7 degrees Celsius.
As per the advisory issued by the Traffic Police here, on Sunday, subject to fair weather and good road condition, only essential commodity vehicles from Jammu would be allowed to move toward Srinagar.
On Mughal Road, vehicles (load carriers) loaded with fresh fruits would be allowed from Herpora Shopian from 11 am to 4 pm toward Poonch.
“No vehicle will be allowed to move afterward. Moreover, no passenger vehicle or pedestrian will be allowed on the Mughal Road,” it said.
The Sonamarg-Leh highway is still blocked near Kangan due to landslide.
Subject to fair weather and clearance of road only essential commodity vehicles would be allowed to ply on the road.
