Kashmir Valley under grip of intense cold wave

A cold wave continued to grip the Kashmir valley with mercury plunging below freezing point at many places.
Officials from Meteorological Department said during the next 24 hours in Srinagar, the sky would be partly cloudy and maximum and minimum temperatures would be around be 11°Celsius and minus 4°Celsius, respectively. On Saturday, the summer capital recorded the maximum of 11°Celsius and minimum of minus 3.7°Celsius, three degrees below the normal.
For the winter capital Jammu, weather officials have forecast mainly clear sky with haze. The maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 19°Celsius and 5°Celsius, respectively on Monday.
Leh would continue to witness intense cold wave with a partly cloudy sky on December 18, they said. “The day’s high and low temperatures will be around 3°Celsius and minus 10°Celsius, respectively,” the officials said.
On Saturday, Leh recorded maximum temperature of 3.4°Celsius while the minimum was minus 12.2°Celsius, the officials said.
The Srinagar-Jammu national highway continued to remain open for one-way traffic from Srinagar to Jammu due to landslides at a number of places that created the risk of accidents.
“The traffic moved from Srinagar to Jammu only,” officials said. The 300-km highway witnessed traffic disruptions on Saturday following multiple collisions between vehicles.
Mainly dry weather
Meteorological Department officials said weather would remain dry till December 22. “The night temperature will see a decline while the day temperature will witness a slight increase,” an official said. There could be light rain or snow at isolated places on December 20 and 21.

The Srinagar-Jammu national highway continued to remain open for one-way traffic from Srinagar to Jammu due to landslides at a number of places that created the risk of accidents.
