Clashes erupted in parts of Valley post Friday Prayers

The police today lobbed teargas shells to quell stone-throwing protesters in the Nowhatta area of Srinagar.
Meanwhile, clashes were also reported from various areas of the Kashmir valley after the Friday prayers.
The protests took place in response to the separatists’ call against the “killing of innocent youth” by security forces and as part of the protest calendar, jointly issued by Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik.
This was for the third consecutive week that the separatists had given no shutdown call for Friday.
Soon after the Friday prayers, masked youths displaying Pakistani flags took to the streets and indulged in stone-throwing on police and CRPF personnel deployed in the Nowhatta area, where the Jamia Masjid is located.
The police fired tear-smoke shells to disperse the protesters who had gathered in hundreds, engaging security personnel in clashes. The pitched battles continued for over an hour.
Meanwhile, shops and business establishments were closed in view of the clashes in the area.
Earlier, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, while addressing people before the Friday congregational prayers at Jamia Masjid, condemned the alleged “excessive use of force and repression” and “stockpiling of more pellet guns”. He said such tactics would not help in restoration of peace and normalcy in the state.
