Gunfight broke out between the militants and the government forces in Anantnag district of south Kashmir on Wednesday.
Reports said a joint team of army’s 1 RR, Special Operations Group (SOG) and paramilitary CRPF personnel laid a seige to Binpora Muniward area of Khanabal around 5am.
The sounds of a massive blast was heard soon after the forces cordoned off the area, reported GNS news agency. The blast was followed by an intense exchange of fire.
A senior police officer said the operation was launched following inputs about the presence of two top militants in the area.
A police official, according to GNS, said the militants opened fire as the forces approached the suspected house, leading to a gunfight.
When reports last came in, the intermittent exchange of fire was on.
Meanwhile, authorities have snapped Internet service in most parts of Anantnag and Kulgam districts in the wake of the gunfight.
Train service was suspended on the Srinagar-Banihal route on Wednesday following a gunfight between militants and the government forces in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
The Srinagar-Banihal train service has been suspended due to the security reasons, a railway official said.
He said the service was suspended as a precautionary measure in the wake of gunfight in Khanabal.
However, train service from Srinagar to Baramulla and vice versa will operate as per the schedule, the official said.
The gunfight broke out early morning in Bunpora Muniward area of Khanabal. Two militants are believed to be trapped inside a house.
