The situation in Kashmir valley remained by and large peaceful for the second consecutive day.
Separatists had announced two-day weekend relaxation in their weekly protest calendar.
Shops, business establishments and fuel stations were open and markets witnessed huge rush. Some schools were also open in the day.
People also thronged Srinagar’s flea market, locally called Sunday market.
Mohammad Yousuf had come a long way from Poshker Bugam to buy warm clothes for his children. “I like to shop in Sunday market. I often come here as there is lot of choice available here,” he said.
Mohammad Ramzan, who sells woollen garments at Lal Chowk, said, “The relaxation announced by Hurriyat leaders should be extended to more days as we have suffered huge losses this summer.”
Public transport was plying normally in Srinagar and in other district headquarters.
Riyaz Ahmad, a bus driver from Batamaloo, said he plied his vehicle for the fourth day today. “The bus I drive is not my own. I am a driver and it is the only source of income for me,” he said.
Over 90 civilians have been killed and thousands injured since July 8 when Hizbul Mujahideen commander, Burhan Wani was killed in an encounter in Kokernag area of south Kashmir.
The separatists have been issuing weekly protest programmes with periodic relaxation on some days of the week.
