A 70-year-old woman from Srinagar died of Swine Flu at Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura on Monday, taking the death toll to 31.
Officials at SKIMS told Kashmir Post that the elderly woman had tested positive and was admitted in the hospital a week ago. “She was a case of comorbidities.”
“She was being treated for H1N1 influenza in the isolation ward. She was suffering from many ailments and died today,” they said.
With her death, the death toll due to H1N1 influenza has risen to 31.
“Since October, a total of 148 cases were admitted at SKIMS, of which 115 were discharged after being treated,” officials informed.
They said at present three H1N1 patients including one from Srinagar and another from Bandipora are admitted in the hospital.
The first Swine Flu death of this season was reported on October 23, 2017.
Interim Director, SKIMS, Dr Omar Javid Shah said since Kashmir is in grip of winter, there are chances that the cases may rise till March.
“It is not that rampant in the valley as compared to rest of the states,” he said.
SKIMS authorities in November last year had predicted rise in the influenza cases due to the prevailing cold weather condition in the Valley.
