Three Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants were killed on Saturday in a gunfight with the government forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Sopore town, police said.
Javed Ahmad Dar of Khanpora, Baramulla and Abid Hamid Mir of Hajin Bandipora are the two slain militants killed in Sopore at the hands of government forces during a gunfight Saturday, officials said.
They said that identification of the third militant is being ascertained.
“Acting on a specific information about the presence of militants in Jamia Mohalla, Amargarh locality of Tarzoo in Sopore, Police along with 52 RR, 92, 177, 179 BN CRPF cordoned off the area and launched the operation which ended on the killing of three militants,” police said.
“Arms and ammunition have also been recovered from the slain militants. The exact identity of the militants is being established.” he said
“One police constable was injured during the encounter. He was shifted to hospital where doctors have described his condition as stable,” he added.
Cellular and mobile Internet services excluding Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district were Saturday suspended following the killing of three LeT militants in Sopore township of the district.
The services were suspended as “precautionary measure” in Baramulla district. The mobile Internet services barring broadband remain down here in the district.
Earlier, three Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants were killed in a gunfight with the government forces in Sopore town, police said.
The authorities had directed all cellular companies to suspend cellular and mobile Internet services in Baramulla to “prevent spread of any rumour on social media,” an official said.
The authorities in north Kashmir on Saturday ordered the closure of all schools and colleges in Baramulla and Sopore townships.
Official sources said that the step has been taken “as a precautionary measure”.
They said that educational institutions have also been shut in Handwara, Hajin and Sumbal areas of north Kashmir.
Meanwhile, authorities on Saturday imposed curfew like restrictions in old town area of baramulla district of north Kashmir.
Locals said that as soon as the news of the killing of local militant killed in Sopore gunfight, reached, huge contingent of police and forces were deployed in Khanpora locality of Baramulla town.
They said all the entry and exit point of old town Baramulla were sealed by police and people were not allowed to move.
Reports said that one of a slain militant killed in the encounter was identified as Javed Ahmad Dar of Khanpora area of old town Baramulla.
