Rallies mark May Day

Like other parts of the country, May Day was observed by various organisations here today.
While speaking at a rally on the occasion, leaders of the Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh All Department Clerical Staff Association said the pay anomaly committees had been constituted several times for the removal of pay imbalance but it had still ignore the clerical cadre.
Sukhbir Singh, general secretary of the association, alleged that the state government from time to time promised to remove pay anomalies but it had not been done. He appealed to the Chief Minister and the Finance Minister to look into the genuine demands of the affected employees.
The J&K state committee of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) organised a rally in which various unions and associations participated.
The workers held red flags, banners and placards in their hands and raised slogans for the unity and integrity of the working class.
While addressing the workers, Om Parkash, CITU general secretary, called upon the working class to prepare for struggle against alleged anti-people and anti-national policies of the BJP-led government.
Former minister and senior state vice-president of National Conference Surjeet Singh Slathia recalled the crucial role played by labourers in shaping the public movement in J&K.
“Labour force is the builder of nation and catalyst of socio-economic transformation,” Slathia said while speaking at a function held at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan here.
He added that the National Conference would always strive to seek restoration of labour rights and implementation of welfare schemes.
Shemrock Global Public School, Birpur, observed International Labour Day on its premises.The function started with a speech welcoming the workers and acknowledging their hard work. It was followed by a group song and a dance performance. Around 25 labourers working in the areas near the school were honoured for their services.
