Govt raking up sensitive issues to hurt Kashmiris: Mirwaiz

Govt raking up sensitive issues to hurt Kashmiris - MirwaizHurriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Friday said that Government was hell bent to disrupt peace by establishing Sainik Colonies, Pandit Townships and people of Kashmir will strongly oppose the moves.

“The government itself is raking up issues that are very sensitive to the people of Kashmir and having the potential of harming their collective interests. The people of Kashmir and resistance leadership would strongly oppose any such moves,” Mirwaiz said addressing a congregation before Friday prayers at historic Jamia Masjid here.

He said that in the name of setting up Sainik colonies, separate townships for displaced Kashmiri Pandits and the new industrial policy, anti-Kashmiri plans were being framed to divide the Kashmiri society and damage the disputed status of J&K.

Mirwaiz said that to register a protest and make people aware about the effects of such plans the resistance leadership has chalked out a joint programme which would be followed with commitment. Calling upon the government to clarify its stance over these issues, he said the Hurriyat (M) struggle has always been peaceful in every aspect and that it did not stand for disturbing peace.

Terming imposition of restrictions and ban on peaceful activities of resistance leadership and placing them under house arrest as unfortunate, Mirwaiz said he was able to participate in Friday congregational prayers at Jamia Masjid after being held under house arrest on previous two Fridays.

Stressing that the return of Kashmiri Pandits was being politicized to present the just struggle of Kashmiri people as extremist movement, the Mirwaiz said this was being done to give an impression that Kashmiri Pandits were not safe among Kashmiri Muslims, therefore a separate township was needed for them.

He said, however, the reality was that pro-freedom leadership believes Kashmiri Pandits are an integral part of Kashmiri society and the conglomerate has always welcomed their return to Kashmir.

Terming the detention of Jammu & Kashmir Liberation Front Chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik, at Central Jail Srinagar, continued house arrest of veteran resistance leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani and restrictions placed on the movement of rest of the resistance leadership as reflection of frustration on part of the government, Mirwaiz called upon the Government of India to realize that Kashmir was a political issue and that by using force and aggression it had neither achieved any success in the past nor would it do so in the future.
