Met predicts rains for next 24 hoursMost parts of the Valley experienced light to moderate rainfall on Friday and weather department predicted more rains for next 24 hours.

Srinagar and other parts of the Valley experienced light to moderate rainfall since last evening. The rainfall brought drop in the temperature.

A Meteorological department official told that Srinagar received 13 mm rainfall from 8: 30 am to 5: 30 pm today. “Qazigund recorded 9 mm rains and Pahalgam received 14 mm rainfall during the period”.

He said Kupwara town recorded 18 mm rainfall between 8: 30 am to 5:30 pm while Kokernag in South Kashmir received 9 mm rainfall in the day.

The official said upper reaches of the Valley including Gulmarg experienced light to heavy snowfall.

He said Gulmarg witnessed 19 mm snowfall and 19 rainfall. “Drass sector of Ladakh region also received heavy snowfall.”

Director, Meteorological department Sonam Lotus told that rains may occur at isolated places up to March 28.

He, however, said there will be a significant improvement in the weather conditions from the morning of Sunday (March 27).

Meanwhile, Chandigarh based Snow and Avalanche Study Establishment (SASE), has again issued a medium danger Avalanche warning in higher areas.

“Medium danger avalanche warning exists for avalanche prone areas situated at an altitude of above 3,000 meters like Kupwara, Baramulla, Bandipora, Kargil and Ganderbal districts of Jammu and Kashmir,” reads the advisory.

It advised people living in the upper reaches to remain indoors and not to venture out.

The avalanche threat would remain effective for next 24 hours.
