City to organise ‘Jammu Festival’ after 8 years

City to organise ‘Jammu Festival’ after 8 yearsAfter a gap of more than eight years, the Tourism Department is going to organise “Jammu Festival” this year from March 24-27.
The city of temples will witness a series of mega events after a gap of around eight years during “Jammu Festival”. The festival was an annual feature of the Tourism Department from 2002 to 2008 on the eve of Baisakhi, but it was later ignored by the department.
However, the department has organised small events meanwhile to show their presence in the state, but the practice of organising “Jammu Festival” was stopped.
Now the department has once again revived the feature and is organising “Jammu Festival” a month ahead of Baisakhi in Jammu.
RK Verma, Director, Tourism, Jammu, informed that the department was going to organise “Jammu Festival” in the winter capital of the state from March 24-27.
The department claims that it would be a mega festival this year as it was being organised after a long time.
The department believes that such events promote tourism activities. During the festival, heritage, culture, cuisine and tourism spots of the Jammu region would be highlighted before the participants.
“I cannot comment why it has not been organised for the past many years, but the department is planning to make it an annual feature of Jammu,” said RK Verma.
“The programme has not yet been finalised. The departmental committee will meet on Monday and finalise the actual list of programme being organised during the festival,” said RK Verma.
While appreciating the government initiatives to celebrate “Jammu Festival”, Inderjeet Khajuria, president of the All Jammu Hotels and Lodges Association (AJHLA), said, “We appreciate the effort of the department, which has revived the culture of celebrating Jammu Festival after a gap of eight years. But they should also focus on completion of pending projects of tourism in the Jammu region.”
“In the absence of tourist spots, which only can attract tourists, how can we expect the tourists’ influx in Jammu?” he added.
