Vehicle wheels’ theft on the rise, police clueless

Vehicle wheels’ theft on the rise, police cluelessThe police seem to have no answer to the growing number of vehicle wheels’ theft cases in Jammu as people continue to face the brunt of thieves who might be working in tandem to do the job perfectly.
Almost every day a gang of thieves is stealing wheels from vehicles parked on the roadside by putting bricks and stones beneath the vehicle.
One such incident happened in the Gandhi Nagar area city last night when thieves stole wheels of a Hyundai I10 Grand vehicle, bearing registration number JK02BN-0313, belonging to an assistant engineer of the Power Development Department, Raj Kumar Gupta. The car was parked in front of his house near Bata showroom at Last-Morh, Gandhinagar.
“Last night four people in a Hyundai Santro car stole all four tyres of my vehicle by using bricks and a jack. When they were removing the jack after removing all four tyres, bricks broke and it caused a huge noise. Our neighbours immediately rushed outside and found thieves leaving in the car which was without a number plate,” Gupta said.
This morning Gupta registered his complaint with the police with a hope that thieves might be caught and he gets his tyres back.
This is not the isolated case of wheels’ theft in the city as recently thieves stole wheels from vehicles parked outside the Pacca Danga police station, near the Deputy Commissioner’s office, Chatha police post and many other places. But the police have failed to arrest the gang of thieves.
Due to lack of parking place in the city, many vehicles remained parked on the roadside in almost every area and taking its advantage thieves remove wheels from vehicles without getting caught.
A police officer said it was a matter of shame for the Police Department that thieves are striking under their nose.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Jammu, Uttam Chand said they had been arresting people involved in such cases, but new gangs emerged. “We will certainly do something to nab these thieves,” he said.
