Eid-e-Milad celebrations start in ValleyWhile Eid-e-Milad, the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad, is observed on the 12th Rabiul-Awwal, devotees regularly throng the Hazratbal Shrine on the banks of the Dal Lake for 12 consecutive days from today.
Supplications are also held at several other shrines during these 12 days as part of distinct Milad celebrations in the Valley. During the Milad days, religious groups also take out processions while several programmes are held across the Valley throwing light on the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad.
Several shrines, shops and households were seen covered with colourful lights in view of Eid-e-Milad.
Milad celebrations in the Valley had begun in the 18th century after the holy relic arrived here. Bagh-i-Sadiqabad, where the holy relic was placed, came to be known as Hazratbal i.e. the Abode of the Prophet. The shrine is also known as Dargah Shareef and it houses the holy relic of Prophet Muhammad.
Meanwhile, J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president GA Mir in a statement issued here today said: “The auspicious occasion Eid-e-Milad was a ‘message of peace, togetherness, tranquility, brotherhood communal harmony and teaches us to remain tolerant and give sacrifices for humanity and for those who are helpless and poor”. Mir hoped that the auspicious occasion would be harbinger of overall development of the country, state and complete peace in the world.
