Six more dengue cases detectedThe total numbers of dengue patients have reached 72. With six more positive cases detected out of 35 samples tested in Jammu on Monday, the total number of patients suffering from vector-borne disease has reached 72.

“The laboratories in Jammu tested 35 samples today out of which six more were found positive. 456 tests have been conducted so far, out of which 72 have been found positive,” said Dr BS Pathania, Director, Health Services, Jammu.

“No serious case has been reported as yet, but the advisories are being issued to take preventive measures,” he added. He said people needed to take precautions to save themselves from mosquito bites.

The Health Department claimed that it was equipped to treat patients suffering from dengue. The department says that till there is a dip in temperature, the threat of the disease will continue, as the dengue-spreading mosquitoes don’t breed in cold weather and it is expected that the situation would improve after October 20.

At the moment the maximum temperature is hovering around 30-34°C, perfect for breeding of aedes aegypti, dengue-spreading mosquito. The department has sprayed insecticides on about 50 houses near the house of each patient. A health advisory, issued by the Centre, has been published widely in local dailies to create awareness about the disease.
