In its campaign to engage Muslims and Christians in the dialogue process, the RSS is avoiding contentious issues like Article 370 and trying to rake up economic issues to sideline the Hurriyat Conference and other separatist groups.
RSS leaders have realised that it will be impossible to make inroads among minorities by taking up controversial issues.
The RSS, ideological mentor of the BJP, has initiated the dialogue with Muslims and Christians to remove “mistrust, misgivings and misunderstanding”. The first such meeting with Christian leaders was held in Jammu this evening.
Indresh Kumar, who is behind initiating the dialogue, said the decision was taken to build bridges of goodwill with minority communities in India such as Christians and Muslims.
The NC and Kashmir-centric separatist groups had alleged that the BJP, which was a part of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed-led government, helped the RSS make inroads in the state.
“Muslims in Kashmir have realised that the gun has brought nothing except death and destruction. Now is the time to start the process of reconciliation,” said the RSS ideologue.
“Separatists and other groups are aware that bringing Kashmiri Muslims to the nation’s mainstream will expose their game plan so they are raising fear of the RSS,” he said.
‘Observing death anniversaries no solution’
The RSS is ready to support the demand for mortal remains of JKLF co-founder Maqbool Bhat and Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru provided it helps improve socio-economic conditions of the Muslim youth facing abject poverty and unemployment. Indresh Kumar said observing the death anniversaries of Bhat and Afzal would not improve the socio-economic conditions of the helpless youth. The Hurriyat Conference, separatist groups and some Kashmir-centric mainstream parties had been demanding return of their mortal remains.
