Mubarak Gul Criticizes Waqf Board Over ‘Incomplete’ Eidgah Pulpit Inauguration
Srinagar, March 29, 2025 – Haji Mubarak Gul, MLA Eidgah and senior leader of the National Conference (NC), has expressed strong displeasure over the premature inauguration of the Mimber Shareef (pulpit) at the historic Eidgah in Srinagar. The move by the Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board has been labeled an “eyewash” aimed at misleading the public, as the structure remains incomplete.
Concerns Raised by Mubarak Gul
Mubarak Gul questioned the undue haste shown by the Waqf authorities in inaugurating the pulpit, which holds immense religious and historical significance. “Why was there such a rush to inaugurate the Mimber when the work is not fully completed? This act reflects a lack of seriousness and disregard for the sentiments of the people,” he remarked.
The MLA also expressed disappointment over the lack of communication and involvement of local elected representatives in the process. “Bypassing the local MLA in matters of such importance is unacceptable and undermines the democratic process,” Gul stated. He further announced plans to submit a privilege motion against the Waqf Board for failing to involve the local MLA in the inauguration process.
Community and Political Reactions
The premature inauguration has sparked criticism from various quarters, with many questioning the Waqf Board’s approach. Mubarak Gul emphasized the need for the remaining work on the Mimber Shareef to be completed without further delay, ensuring that the structure serves its intended purpose with dignity and reverence.
The controversy has also reignited debates about the functioning of the Waqf Board, which has faced criticism in the past for its handling of religious projects and properties.
