The Congress today launched a blistering attack on PM Narendra Modi for focusing on international issues at the cost of local problems confronting the nation.
“The killing of border dwellers is going on unabated in the Jammu region due to heavy shelling from across the border but the stature of our PM has become so big that he has no time to address such trivial issues concerning lives and security of the people of the country,” Leader of the Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad said while targeting Modi for maintaining silence on the bloodbath on the borders.
Interacting with media persons after conducting an extensive tour of shelling-affected villages of Jammu district along with AICC general secretary Ambika Soni, Azad minced no words in attacking the Prime Minister for his failure to protect lives and properties of people.
“During the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP’s campaign revolved around the J&K situation and the party leadership had created fear over Pakistan to reap political benefits,” Azad said.
“During the last four years, many beheading incidents have taken place on the borders but the government has failed to react”, he said.
The Congress leader said, “Modi is busy focusing on international issues and he has nothing to do with the common people, especially the border firing victims.”
He alleged that the PM was teaching policy matters to the US, Britain and China, but he had no policy for the people of India and Kashmir in particular.
“I must remind Modi that he has become the PM on the Kashmir plank,” said Azad.
He advocated that the demands of border residents like plots in safer zones and better schooling should be met.
Meanwhile, Soni called the situation on the J&K borders “out of control” and said that “from now onwards, we will be adopting an agitational approach to expose the BJP and bring justice to the victims”.
