The veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani has said that peace in South Asia will remain a far-fetched dream unless the Kashmir dispute is resolved as per aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
Syed Ali Gilani was addressing a seminar on “Factors behind Pak-India Tension”, held under his chair at Hyderpora in Srinagar, today. He urged the world community to intervene for settlement of the Kashmir dispute, saying that eruption of a war between nuclear-armed Pakistan and India this time could engulf peace of the entire world. The relations between the two countries, he added, will improve only after resolution of the Kashmir dispute. His speech was frequently punctuated with slogans like “We Want Freedom”, “Jeeway Jeeway Pakistan”, Dil Dil Pakistan Jan Jan Pakistan” and “Gilani Sahib Qadam Barhao Hum Tumharay Sath Hain.” Muhmmad Ashraf Sehrai, Ghulam Nabi Sumjhi and others also addressed the seminar.Meanwhile, complete shutdown will be observed in occupied Kashmir, tomorrow, in protest against the utter failure of Indian government to rehabilitate the people affected during the last year’s floods. Call for the strike has been given by the Kashmir Economic Alliance, an umbrella body of traders’ federations to mark the first anniversary of devastating floods. Hurriyet leaders and organizations including the forum led by the veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani, the All Parties Hurriyet Conference Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Muhammad Yasin Malik and Shabbir Ahmed Shah as well as the High Court Bar Association have supported the call.
Hurriyet leader, Nayeem Ahmad Khan along with a team visited the residence of a martyred youth, Riyaz Ahmad Mir in Sopore and expressed solidarity with his family.
Hurriyet leaders Shabbir Ahmed Dar, Mohammad Iqbal Mir, Hilal Ahmad War and human rights defender Mohammad Ahsan Untoo in their statements condemned the anti-Kashmiri assertions of RSS and said that the statement was reflection of the real face of the Hindu extremist organization.
Speakers at a roundtable conference organized by the AJK chapter of the forum patronized by the veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani in Islamabad, today, paid tributes to martyrs of 1965 on the Defence Day of Pakistan, today. The event was presided over by the Convener, Ghulam Mohammad Safi.
