The US has expressed concern over the violence in Kashmir and called on “all sides” to make efforts to find a peaceful solution to the issue as it wants to see the tensions de-escalated.
“We encourage all sides to make efforts to find a peaceful solution to this,” state department spokesman John Kirby told reporters when asked about the ongoing violence in Kashmir.
“We have obviously seen reports of the clashes between protesters and Indian forces in Kashmir. And we’re, of course, concerned by the violence, as you might expect we would be,” he said.
Kirby said the US was in close touch with the Indian government over the issue. “But we’re obviously concerned by the violence and we want to see the tensions de-escalated,” Kirby said.
Protests broke out across Kashmir Valley on 9 July, a day after Hizbul Mujahideen militant Burhan Wani was killed by Indian security forces. (PTI)
A peaceful protest was held outside Indian Embassy in Tokyo Japan against killings spree in Kashmir by forces.
The Pakistani and Indian communities in Tokyo Japan and other areas joined the protest and were holding placards and raising slogans like “Shame India Shame” and ” Kashmir wants freedom” “Stop Killing Kashmiris.”
Protesters also presented a memorandum was to Indian Embassy seeking peaceful and effective resolution of Kashmir issue.
TMMK, a party in Pondicherry held a protest demonstration against the civilian killings in Kashmir.
A spokesman of TMMK in statement here said that a protest was held at Muthilalpet in Pondicherry town.
“Hundreds of protesters participated in the demonstration. They were demanding immediate end to brutal killings and investigation into the human rights violations by the forces,” he added.
They were also demanding that law and order must be restored immediately by stopping use of pellet guns, revocation of AFSPA, and demilitarisation of entire Kashmir.
