BJP red faced as party MLA Sukhnandan Kumar slams govt

The ruling BJP yet again faced embarrassment in the Legislative Assembly on Thursday when its legislator Sukhnandan Kumar Choudhary accused his own party of pursuing “anti-farmer” policies.
He dubbed his party as ‘city centric’, which was protecting the interests of the business class of urban areas.
During debates on grants of the Power Development Department (PDD) and Housing and Urban Development, Choudhary regretted that the PDP-BJP regime had announced various amnesty schemes for industrialists and hoteliers of the state, but the farming community had been ignored.
He said the power department had announced various amnesty schemes to give relief to big industrialists and business groups, but not even a single incentive had been announced for the farmers. The legislator said due to the non-availability of power in rural areas, the farming community was facing hardships but the government was apathetic.
“Those who are holding important ministries in the government are discriminating with rural areas,” Choudhary alleged, amid thumping of benches from the Opposition members.
“The way this government is discriminating against the farming community has authenticated the allegation that the BJP is a party of “Kanak Mandi”,” Choudhary said while mentioning the name of the walled city’s oldest market which was once the only stronghold of the saffron party in the Jammu region.
Choudhary also mentioned that the urban civic bodies had captured stray dogs from cities and had been released in rural areas. “To provide comforts to cities, this government is increasing the woes of the rural residents,” he added.
