BJP deputes Ram Lal to ‘Placate’ workers at grassroots level

Step taken after Rajnath Singh got ‘discouraging’ feedback about party ministers during his visit

As Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has not received “encouraging” feedback about the performance of party ministers in the coalition, the BJP high command has decided to depute party national general secretary (organisation) Ram Lal to “placate” the workers at grassroots-level.
During his visit to Jammu on September 11 and 12, Rajnath had received a large number of complaints against party ministers. Not only the civil society expressed anger over the performance of the BJP ministers, even a few party delegations also drew his attention to the prevailing resentment among workers against the ministers.
“Rajnath has not received good feedback about performance of the party nominees in the government,” a source in the party said. As a result, Ram Lal, who is an RSS man in the BJP, has been asked to initiate a dialogue with the workers.
Sources said Ram Lal would reach Jammu on September 17 for a two-day visit. “During his stay at Jammu, he will hold interactive session with party ‘vistaraks’ who had conducted house-to-house visits during the past two months to connect with people and get feedback about the party’s performance,” the sources said, adding that these “vistarkas” had reached out to all parts of Jammu province.
The sources said the failure of the party ministers to establish contact with common masses had created a “trust-deficit” and anger was brewing among people against the BJP ministers. “A majority of the delegations that called on Rajnath had took the BJP ministers to task for their style of functioning,” the sources said, adding that a veteran Sangh Parivar leader had warned Rajnath that the failure to establish connect with the common man could prove disastrous for the party in the Lok Sabha elections.

Ram Madhav visit likely

The visit of Ram Lal is likely to be followed by a two-day trip of Ram Madhav, who is the main architect of the PDP-BJP alliance in J&K. Sources said Ram Madhav was likely to visit Jammu on September 21 and 22 to hold interactions with party workers. He will also meet party legislators and other senior leaders to review performance of the party ministers in the coalition.
