Militants attack forces in Anantnag, civilian injured; Toy, mistaken as bomb, triggers scare on highway

Police on Saturday said that a civilian was injured after militants targeted the government forces in Vesu area of Anantnag in south Kashmir.
In a statement, issued here today, a spokesman said that a civilian Meenu Arif, who works with a construction company in Banihal, was hit after militants missed the target and hit his car.
Arif, according to the spokesman, said that he was on way to Banihal when unknown militants fired upon the two forces’ vehicles moving ahead of his car at 5 am today.
“The fire missed the target and hit his car and he was injured in the back,” said the spokesman.
He said that Arif was shifted to SMHS hospital where his condition is stated to be stable.
“About 20 empty cases of AK ammunition have been recovered from the spot. A case has been registered and investigation has been taken up,” added the spokesman.
Arif, 45, is a resident of Bakshi Abad area of Anantnag.

A “toy bomb” triggered scare on the Srinagar-Jammu highway in Galander area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Saturday morning.
A police official said that a road opening party of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) located the “toy bomb” on the highway and immediately sought the services of a Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS).
“Instead of finding an explosive device, BDS recovered a toy, which seemed like a bomb,” said the official on the condition of anonymity as he was not authorized to speak to media.
