‘You first gave slogan of Raishumari, then called it Awaragardi’
Coming down heavily on National Conference (NC) in the Legislative Assembly today, Chief Minister Mehbobba Mufti today accused the party of not only sowing the seeds of separatism in Kashmir but also blamed it of making mockery of Raishumari by calling it Awaragardi.
Speaking during Obituary References in the Legislative Assembly, Mehbooba Mufti, without naming the NC, said, “Kashmir situation is your creation and not ours. We inherited it,” the Chief Minister said, and added, “It is you who are responsible for the present situation in Kashmir.”
“First we used to listen to Kashmir Banega Pakistan, then you gave the slogan of Raishumari and later made mockery of it and called it as Awaragardi.”
She added, “Then you rigged the 1987 elections and gave guns to the youth which gave rise to militancy. These are the factors that are responsible for the Kashmir situation,” Mehbooba reiterated.
This infuriated the NC members present in the House. They immediately stood up from their seats and created ruckus in the House. The NC members including Mubarak Gul, Akbar Lone, Abdul Majid Larmi, Kamal Arora, Mian Altaf and others stood up from their seats and lodged a strong protest, interrupting the Chief Minister.
“Where was Mufti Sayeed, the late Chief Minister, in 1987?” the NC members asked the Chief Minister. “If you are blaming us, then you must name Mufti Sayeed also who was in Congress at that time,” Larmi and Akbar Lone said.
The NC members also termed the BJP-PDP alliance as “unholy” saying that the government is working on the orders of RSS. “You allied with BJP/RSS and the government functions on the orders from the RSS,” Lone and Larmi said.
Amid total din, Mehbooba, while responding to opposition’s demand of constituting inquiry commission to probe 2016 Kashmir unrest killings, reminded them of the 2010 unrest and killings and asked them to discuss that first.
“Why 2016? The Commission of Inquiry over 2010 unrest and killings has recently submitted its report, so let us first discuss 2010 unrest and killings,” the Chief Minister responded to the opposition.
Mehbooba also appealed the opposition to help the government in bringing the situation to normal saying that the Kashmir problem is there since 1947. “Whatever it is, we want your cooperation to bring the situation under control,” Mehbooba appealed to the opposition.
