A peaceful protest march was staged on Thursday in Anchaar area of Soura in Srinagar against the security forces raid that left over 40 civilians injured a day ago.
Reports said that hundreds of people staged peaceful protests against the forces. The residents said that forces raid was unjustified and unprovoked. Reports said that the condition of an elderly man from Ilahibagh area of Srinagar who was hit by a tear gas shell on his head continues to be serious. The man identified as Ghulam Muhammad Khan alias Naqash was outside his residence when forces fired a shell at his head, his family members alleged. “He is very critical and is on ventilator at SKIMS Soura,” the family said.
Meanwhile, amid shutdown on the 118th consecutive day in Kashmir, there was an increase in the number of private vehicles on roads. In Srinagar, roads from Nigeen to SaidaKadal, Rainawari and Khanyar crossing near Shiraz Cinema witnessed huge rush of private traffic. Reports said in city centre areas like Regal Chowk and Residency Road vendors had installed their stalls, rush of private cars was visible while shop owners had shut their business due to resistance calendar. There was no relaxation today in the protest calendar issued by the resistance leaders. Uptown Sanantnagar market remained open.
Reports said that majority of business establishments from SaidaKadalbridge towards AshaiBagh remained open throughout the day. Reports said that the main market outside Kashmir University and Nigeen remained shut as was the stretch from Lal Bazar towards Alamgiri Bazar, Nowhatta and Khanyarchowk in old Srinagar. The markets in Batwara, Sonwar and Poloview, Residency Road till Maharaj Bazar and Shaheedgunz, Magarmal, Batamaloo remained shut.
Vendors at Poloview did smooth business with shoppers thronging the market.
From Panthanchowk to Sonwar stretch, vendors had set up their stalls at Sonwar while shops were closed. However, shops were open at Athawajan area.
Reports from north Kashmir’s Baramulla said that police claimed to have arrested five people involved in “arson of a government school in Pattan on 26/27th last month.”
Police said three stone pelters were arrested in Awantipora. “Awantipora Police on a specific tip off arrested three stone pelters at Kaichechkoot, under the jurisdiction of police station Awantipora.”
Reports from Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district said that contingent paid workers (chowkidars) of government schools staged protests against recent order of education department in which they were asked to remain on duty for round the clock at their respective schools. Reports said that amid slogans in favour of their demands for more than two hours, they staged a sit in outside mini-secretariat Ganderbal.
Police said miscreants set ablaze an auto-rickshaw belonging to Farooq Ahmad Sheikh resident of Doonipawa, Anantnag, on KP Road near Al Sarwat Crossing.
It also said some miscreants pelted stones on vehicular traffic at LalChowk Anantnag in which one lady Tasleema Begum wife of Ali Mohammad Sheikh resident of Seepora Anantnag received injury in her face.
