Kashmir continues to bleed as three more civilians were killed in fresh police firing on Friday, taking the death toll of people killed in ongoing unrest triggered by killing of 21-year-old Hizb commander Burhan Wani to 57.
Over 300 people were injured in police and paramilitary forces action during protests across the Valley today.
There were reports that police and CRPF men opened fire inside Kangan hospital while police men took away a pellet-injured from Chadoora hospital.
A youth identified as Danish Rasool Mir of Wagoora area of Baramulla district was killed after police men fired on him at Batapora, Sopore.
BMO Sopore, Dr Sami confirmed to Kashmir Post that Danish succumbed to bullet injuries at SDH Sopore this evening.
Sources said Danish had visited his relatives in Batpora, Sopore and was stuck there from past several days due to volatile situation.
They said on Friday evening, Danish was killed by forces in Batpora, Sopore.
A middle-aged man Mohammad Maqbool Wagay of Chadoora, Budgam was also killed in police firing in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district today.
DC Budgam and Medical Superintendent SMHS hospital Dr Nazir Choudhary confirmed his death
In yet another incident, a person from Khan Sahib area of Beerwah, Budgam was shot dead by security personnel.
The person, whose identity could not be ascertained, was 29-year-old and as per reports was brought dead to SMHS hospital this evening.
He was injured in clashes between protestors and forces in Khan Sahib this evening.
Doctors at SMHS hospital said he had received firearm injury on head, which caused his death.
With the fresh deaths, the death toll of people killed in ongoing unrest has risen to 57. Over 3500 civilians have also been injured in the unrest triggered by killing of Burhan Wani on July 8.
Massive clashes erupted in Chadoora, Beerwah and other parts of Budgam. During the clashes, police and CRPF men fired bullets, pellets and tear smoke shells to disperse the protestors, who were pelting stones on them. Over 45 people were injured in clashes in Chadoora area.
Reports of clashes between protesters and forces were also received from Tral, Imam Saheb, Shopian, Pulwama, Hajin, Langate, Bandipora, Kupwara and many other places in South and North Kashmir. The clashes between youth and cops also took place at Rainawari, Batamaloo and many other places in Srinagar.
Sources said about 300 persons were injured across the Valley in the day.
According to doctors, SMHS hospital alone received 80 referral cases throughout the day. “Of the 80, seven had bullet injuries while others were hit by pellets and tear gas shells”.
Medical Superintendent SMHS Dr Nazir Choudhary said one among the 80 patients was brought dead to the hospital.
South Kashmir
Clashes between forces and protesters erupted in Bijbehara and Khudwani area in Anantnag and Kulgam districts. Many persons were injured in police firing at Khudwani. Clashes continued in Bijbehara till last evening.
The pro-freedom rallies were held at Fatehpore and Kabamarg in Anantnag district. Severe clashes between forces and protesters erupted in Shopian after Friday prayers.
Reports said clashes continued for few hours at Imam Sahib, Hillow, Barebugh, Adekher, Heerpora, Kannipora, Batepora, Bonegam, Shirmal, Habdipora and Mimender.
Sources said the clashes erupted in most parts of South Kashmir.
Strict curfew remained in force in every town of South Kashmir and people were not allowed to reach the central mosques.
A youth was critically injured in Shopian during clashes between forces and protesters. He was injured at Chodergund, Mimender, area of the town and later taken to local hospital for treatment.
District Hospital sources told Kashmir Post that the youth had multiple pellet injuries and fractures in his head.
They said he was later shifted to Srinagar for specialized treatment.
A massive pro-freedom rally was held in Khrew area of Pampore in Pulwama district. The clerics of different sects and separatist leaders addressed the rally.
At least two people were injured after forces tried to break up a demonstration in Tral, the home town of Burhan. The forces fired dozens of tear smoke shells and resorted to heavy baton charge to disperse the protesters.
North Kashmir
At least one hundred and forty people were injured, some of them seriously, during clashes after Friday prayers across north Kashmir.
Protests erupted after Friday prayers at several places including Arampora, Krankshivan Colony, Jaamia Masjid area and Seelo in Sopore.
A large procession was also taken out from Brat area.
Witnesses said protesting people were marching towards main town Sopore when CRPF and police stopped them from marching and fired tear smoke shells and pellets to disperse them.
Sources said about 100 people were injured, prompting medical authorities in Sopore to send SOS to nearby hospitals seeking ambulances for evacuating injured to hospitals.
The protests intensified after scenes of ambulances triggered a state of anxiety across the town.
All the injured were shifted to Sub- district Hospital Sopore, where from six seriously injured youth were referred to different hospitals in Srinagar.
“So far were have received approximately 40 people with injuries. Six injured were referred to Srinagar Hospitals and the number may increase as more people with injuries are coming for treatment,” Block Medical Officer Sopore, Dr Sami told Kashmir Post.
Amid shutdown, curfew remained in place in Baramulla, where all bridges connecting the old town with civil lines were sealed with barbed wires.
The youth after Friday prayers took out a protest rally. Amid pro-freedom and anti-India sloganeering, youth pelted stones on the cops, who fired numerous tear gas shells to disperse the crowd.
In Palhalan and Pattan nearly 20 people sustained pellet injuries during protests. Among the injured, four were referred to Srinagar Hospitals.
People also took out a peaceful protest procession from Jamia Masjid Watergam in Rafiabad to main Chowk. Chanting pro-freedom slogans and carrying ply cards and green flags, youth were demanding an end to civilian killings. They dispersed off peacefully.
Protests and clashes were also reported from Kralgund in Handwara.
During clashes, about one dozen people were injured. Around 10 injured were referred to Handwara Hospital, where from eight were referred to different hospitals in Srinagar.
Shahnawaz Ahmad Khan of Supernaghama suffered rubber bullet injury on chest, Shabir Ahmad Nakikoo of Supernaghama was hit by pellets on left eye, Zubair Ahmad Lone, Irshad Ahmad Shah both of Udipora, Nazir Ahmad Bhat of Unisoo, Waseem Ahmad of Mandigam, Bilal Ahmad Malla of Supernaghama, Haroon Rashid Bhat Ananwan were also injured.
Protests and clashes were also reported from Langate area of Kupwara.
Locals said they witnessed rush of ambulances to hospital throughout the day.
“It was all sirens of ambulances and people on streets,” they said.
However, officials remained mum about the situation.
Sopore remained on boil after killing of youth in its Batpora area. Many people from Nowpora, Model Town, Batpora, Main chowk, Arampora were injured in clashes with cops.
Meanwhile, thousands of people marched on roads in Bandipora after Friday prayers. Chanting anti-India and pro-freedom slogans, they were intercepted by police and CRPF men. The cops used force to disperse the processionists, injuring many of them.
Clashes also erupted between youth and forces in Hajin area of Bandipora.
Eyewitnesses said soon after the culmination of Friday prayers, hundreds of protesters tried to march towards main town from Jamia Masjid Hajin. However, they were stopped by forces resulting in clashes.
The residents of Nowpora, Plan and Ajar villages of Bandipora also assembled on roads after culmination of Friday prayers and marched through the inner streets of the town.
The protestors including women and children carried placards and banners eulogizing Burhan.
The march was taken out despite strict restrictions put in place by the authorities in the district.
Reports of clashes were received from Ajar, Nowpora, Pazalpora, Mantrigam Papchan and Ajas.
Two persons were injured in clashes at Ajar and Papchan. The injured have been identified as Sajad Ahmad and Suhail of Nadihal and Ajar.
Unconfirmed reports said that two person sustained injuries in police action in Mantrigam.
Peaceful protests were carried out in Kaloosa , Ayathmulla, Aloosa, Ongam, Panzigam and Ashtengoo.
Religious and pro-freedom taranas were also being played out in Masjids at several places.
Massive clashes erupted in Kupwara town and several other areas of the district.
The youth and cops clashed in Kupwara town, Trehgam, Sulkoote, Zurhama, Kralgund, Supernaghama, Ganapora and Langate areas. Many persons were injured in the clashes.
Central Kashmir
Several areas in Central Kashmir including Chadoora, Beerwah, Ganderbal, Kangan and Srinagar remained on boil.
At least 15 persons were injured in clashes between protesters and forces in Ganderbal.
Massive clashes broke out between youth and cops at Chadoora after the policemen stopped a protest march. Police fired pellet, tear gas shells and bullets to disperse the protestors.
At least 45 people were injured in the clashes. One of the injured later succumbed to injuries in the hospital.
According to doctors attending on the injuries, most of them have sustained pellet injuries.
BMO Chadoora, Dr Nazir told Kashmir Post that the critically injured person were referred to SMHS hospital and SKIMS Soura.
He said those shifted to SMHS hospital have sustained pellet injuries in vital organs.
The BMO also accused the forces of beating the hospital staff and vandalizing the hospital property.
A doctor of the hospital alleged that the cops took away a youth hit with pellets.
“We are feeling scared. The cops dragged a pellet-hit victim and beat him outside. We are not sure what happened to him,” he said.
Residents of New Colony, Charar-i-Sharief staged protest demonstration against the excesses of forces.
They alleged that police and CRPF men thrashed residents and misbehaved with women folk following protests in the area.
Meanwhile, doctors and paramedic staff at Trauma hospital Kangan had a narrow escape when police and CPR men while chasing protesters after Friday prayers resorted to aerial firing and fired tear smoke shells inside the hospital premises.
The police and CRPF men also beat attendants of the patients and harassed the doctors and paramedical staff on duty.
This is for the second time the forces have barged in the hospital.
Duty officer of hospital Dr Suhail told Kashmir Post that few days back , two ambulances of Trauma Hospital Kangan while carrying hospital staff for duties were also attacked by CRPF.
He said whole staff at Trauma Hospital Kangan was extremely terrified and concerned about their safety.
“Despite repeated requests, district administration and police haven’t taken any substantial measures to ensure our safety. Now we have decided to close down the hospital from Saturday. We can’t risk our lives,” he said.
Dr Suhail said that they treated CRPF and Police as well and in return they got bashing and beating from them.
“It is very unfortunate the CRPF and Police did not even think of patients in the hospital. They just came in and thrashed doors and panes of hospital to catch the stone pelters and open three fires inside the hospital,” he added.
Srinagar
In Srinagar, protests and clashes took place in Soura, Bagaat Barzulla, Pantha Chowk, HMT, Habbak, Lal Bazar, Omar Colony, Rainawari, Sanat Nagar, Rawalpora, Habba Kadal, Soura, Maisuma, Hyderpora, Karan Nagar, Saraibal, Fateh Kadel, Nawa Bazar, Hazratbal, Laweypora, Nattipora, Chanpora, Nowgam and Old City.
Clashes in Soura erupted after police stopped a rally moving towards Dargah.
Hundreds of people also staged a protest at Khanqah-e-Sokhta Nawa Kadal after forces foiled their attempt to march towards Hazratbal.
The clashes between youth and cops also took place in Rainawari area of downtown Srinagar. The clashes continued for over an hour during which cops fired dozens of tear smoke shells.
The residents of Pantha Chowk also carried out a protest rally against the civilian killings in Kashmir. The protest rally started from Aaripora in which hundreds of people including women participated and chanted pro-freedom slogans.
The protesters were carrying banners displaying ‘we want freedom’ and were chanting pro-freedom slogans. The rally was later peacefully concluded at Bypass.
The men, women and children of Zewan also took out peaceful protest rallies. Chanting pro-freedom, pro-Islamic and anti-India slogans, the protestors were demanding an end to civilian killings.
The residents of Dalgate staged protest against excesses of force personnel.
They alleged that CRPF men on Friday evening barged into the houses and thrashed the inmates, misbehaved with women and damaged the household goods.
Kashmir has been reeling under curfew and shut down for last 28 days. The internet services have remained suspended in the valley ever since protests started against the killing of Burhan Wani on July 8.
All shops and business establishments remained closed for 28th day today due to curfew, restrictions and shutdown.
Police Version
A police spokesman said situation throughout Kashmir remained under control and a as a precautionary measure Curfew/restrictions were put in place in police stations of North zone Srinagar and Anantnag town.
He said 15 incidents of stone pelting were reported across the valley. “These incidents were reported from Ganderbal, Kulgam, Anantnag, Shopian, Baramulla, Kupwara and Bandipora.”
The spokesman said during these law and order situations 3 persons, 25 police and security force personnel including a CRPF Coy Commander were injured. “The CRPF Coy Commander suffered serious injury in his face.”
He, however, did not mention about any civilian killings in police and CRPF firing today.
