One more succumbs to injuries, Arrest spree in Nowgam, Srinagar, Bandipora protest alleged excesses by forcesA man from south Kashmir’s Anantnag town who was reportedly injured in forces action some days back, succumbed to his injuries on on Monday.

Mushtaq Ahmad succumbed at SMHS, reports said. Sources said that Mushtaq had a head injury and doctors tried everything to save his life but in vain. He was a resident of Dooni Pawa, Anantnag.

Police on Sunday evening raided many areas of Nowgam in Srinagar to arrest youth, reports said. Many youth have been arrested while elderly fathers were also arrested whose wards were not present at their homes, locals alleged.

Following this a protest demonstration of women was held in the area, locals said Kashmir Post. All the arrested people are still in the custody as many family members are worried about their kith and kin, they said.

The inhabitants of Nasoo area of Bandipora on Monday held protests outside Deputy Commissioner’s Office at Bandipora against alleged harassment by the army. The protesters alleged that army men barged into their homes at around 1 am and thrashed the inmates.

They alleged that a local driver Muhammad Altaf Sheikh “was beaten so badly that his left arm and left leg suffered fractures” and that he had to be admitted in a hospital. Meanwhile, clashes erupted between youth and forces in Kaloosa area of the district.

Witnesses said that women also participated in protests. Forces fired several tear-gas shells to disperse the protesters, who wouldn’t relent.

Kashmir has erupted after the killing of militant commander Burhan Wani on July 8.
