PDP-led govt implementing RSS agenda: Geelani

Police foils Hurriyat (G) event, detains dozens of activistsPolice Thursday foiled Hurriyat Conference (G) seminar and detained nearly two dozen members of the conglomerate during a sit-in protest at Hyderpora and lodged them in Humhama Police Station on Thursday.

Hurriyat led by Syed Ali Geelani had organized a seminar titled “Present Situations and our Responsibilities” at its Hyderpora office. A large contingent of police was deployed in the area early morning and members were stopped from attending the scheduled event.

Police sealed all lanes and bylanes near Hurriyat office and barred people and mediapersons from entering Hurriyat (G) office premises. Meanwhile, protesting against police curbs, scores of Hurriyat (G) members led by senior leader and personal secretary to Geelani, Peer Saifuallah took out a protest rally from Hurriyat office and marched towards Main Chowk Hyderpora.

Raising anti-state terrorism and anti-government slogans, protesters blocked the Airport Road at Hyderpora to protest police curbs. Police arrested over 21 Hurriyat (G) members including Peer Saifullah, Mohammad Abdullah Tarri, Khan Sopori, Mohammad Yousuf Mujahid, Abdul Hameed Magray, Mohammad Yaseen Attai, Sayed Imtiyaz Hayder, Shakeel Ahmad Bhat, Sayed Zahoor-ul-Haq Geelani and Sayed Hafizullah and detained them in local police station.

Denouncing the police action, scores of Hurriyat (G) members led by senior leader Ghulam Nabi Sumji and Raja Mehrajuddin staged protest demonstrations near Jamia Masjid Hyderpora.

Police chased away the protesters and restored the traffic movement on the airport road.

Terming the curbs on the seminar as worst kind of state terrorism, Geelani said: “Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and her colleagues are acting like pawns for implementation of RSS agenda in the state. It seems Mehbooba and her colleagues have taken Ganga bath to implement RSS agenda in Jammu & Kashmir.”

Hurriyat (G) spokesman, Ayaz Akbar said: “Seminar would have neither influenced the law and order situation nor the traffic system but the police follow different policies and they cordoned off the entire area and the Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Head Office at Hyderpora and restricted the movement of people.”

He accused police of using excessive force against peaceful Hurriyat protesters and beating dozens of activists.

Condemning police action, the spokesman said the BJP-PDP coalition government had toughened its policies against the pro-freedom camp.

“We are not given any space to perform the political activities. Dozens of pro-freedom people are serving detention under the PSA and others who are out of jail are being followed every time. Officials of the state police are also trying to become more loyal than the king and in that race they have waged war against their own people,” he said.

Hurriyat spokesman said BJP is using state machinery for implementation of its agenda “and PDP is acting as their agents”.

“Jammu province is already under the full control of the communal forces and now they want to extend control to Kashmir Valley,” he said.
