Jammu records season’s hottest day at 43 degreeAmid heat wave conditions, winter capital Jammu on Wednesday experienced season’s hottest day with mercury touching 43 degrees Celsius—the highest temperature recorded this summer, so far.

According to Meteorological department officials, the maximum temperature in the city on Wednesday was up by around four degrees above average as it settled at 42.8 degree Celsius, making it the hottest day so far.

“On May 16, maximum temperature in Jammu was recorded at 39.7 only—.04 notches above normal, while yesterday’s temperature was recorded at 41.7 degrees Celsius. But due to frequent forest fire incidents in the past two days, the temperature rose to 42.8 degrees Celsius—three notches above normal,” a MeT official said.

After Jammu, the base camp of Vaishno Devi shrine—Katra town—remained hottest place with 39.6 degrees Celsius maximum temperature. The minimum temperature in Jammu and Katra was recorded at 24.7 and 25.1 degrees Celsius, respectively.

“Banihal recorded maximum temperature of 31.4 degrees Celsius and minimum of 14.3 degrees Celsius, Batote 31.4 (maximum) and 14.6 (minimum), tourist resort Bhaderwah 32.5 degrees Celsius (maximum) and 12.5 degrees Celsius minimum temperature,” he said.

Weatherman predicted hot and dry conditions to continue in the state till end of this week.

“There will be no rains till May 21 and the temperature is likely to increase further as the present heat wave condition will continue during this period,” he added.
