Govt starts functioning from winter capitalWith the reopening of the Durbar Move offices, the state government today started functioning from the winter capital of the state, Jammu. It would function from the city for the next six months.
On the first day, the hustle and bustle was recorded in all the government offices, particularly civil secretariat, which are the part of biannual Durbar Move — a 143-year-old practice of shifting of government offices.
Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed after inspecting the ceremonial parade and receiving the Guard of Honour interacted with his Cabinet ministers and discussed various issues pertaining to the smooth functioning of the government.
In the Legislative Assembly secretariat, Speaker Kavinder Gupta also took a round of the complex and inspected various sections of the Assembly. He was accompanied by the Secretary, Legislative Assembly, and other senior officers.
The Deputy Chairman, state Legislative Council, Jehangir Mir, on the reopening of offices also inspected various sections of Council secretariat and took stock of arrangements made for their smooth functioning.
Mir along with Secretary, Council, Abdul Majid Bhat inspected various sections of the Council secretariat. He instructed the Secretary to sort out issues of the Council employees, if any, on priority, so as to allow them to discharge their duties smoothly.
While chairing officers’ meeting, Mir directed them to obtain action taken reports with regard to different committees in time.
The Director General of Police (DGP), K Rajendra Kumar, paid tributes to martyrs at the Police Martyrs Memorial along with senior police officers and inspected the Police Headquarters (PHQ) and other moving police establishments that resumed functioning here this morning following Durbar Move.
Rajendra visited the Police Headquarters where he was received by senior police officers and presented guard of honour by a contingent of the Armed Police. Accompanied by ADGP, Headquarters, SP Vaid and other senior police officers, the DGP visited various sections of the the Police Headquarters and took stock of the functioning of the sections.
The DGP also visited other moving police offices, including Armed, CID, Security, Railways, Crime Headquarters and Police Housing Corporation. Interacting with the staff, Rajendra stressed upon them to render their duties with zeal, enthusiasm and discipline.
Later, Rajendra convened a meeting of senior police officers at the Police Headquarters and reviewed working of different police establishments. He instructed officers to maintain close coordination at all levels to maintain law and order.
