Banners, Placards banned inside PM rally venue

Banners, Placards banned inside PM rally venueTo ensure that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally in Srinagar takes place without any trouble, security agencies have decided not to allow any banner, placard or poster inside the Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium, the venue of the Prime Minister’s public rally, sources said.
The step, the sources said, had been taken so that no miscreant would carry an anti-rally flag inside the venue in the garb of pro-Modi banners and placards.
With hardline separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani calling for a “million march” on the day of the rally, the security agencies have taken unprecedented measures to prevent anti-rally elements from entering the venue to create trouble.
The sources said a large number of policemen in civvies would be present at the rally to keep an eye on such elements to pre-empt any anti-Modi protest.
“We have taken various measures inside the venue and one among them is that no banner, poster or placard will be allowed inside,” said a top police officer who did not wish to be quoted.
However, huge hoardings have been erected by the organisers in various parts of city to welcome the PM.
Sources said those attending the Modi rally from would be screened at various levels. The vehicles ferrying the rally participants will not be allowed to go near the venue and will be halted at designated embarkation points, they added.
During Modi’s previous rally at the same venue last year, people were seen carrying big posters of Modi and even placards.
The J&K Government has already detained over 300 separatists, stone-throwers and former militants in the Valley to ensure that separatist groups do not hold their rally. Besides, senior separatist leaders have been put under house arrest.
