The six-storeyed mega multi-level parking complex at the General Bus stand here would go a long way in provide much-needed relief from parking problem by accommodating 1,300 cars and providing access corridor to 80 buses and a taxi stand.

Six-storeyed project to ease parking problem in JammuThe complex being completed at an estimated cost of Rs 201 crore would also have 160 shops for the shopkeepers who are being dislocated after its construction. It will also have air-conditioned ticket booking office and waiting hall, besides open landscape courts at the commercial complex level. It will also have add-on facilities of refreshment, washrooms and restaurants, to run it as a self-sustaining model.

Mubarak Singh, Vice-Chairman, Jammu Development Authority (JDA), said Shapoorji Pallonji Engineering and Construction had been assigned the task of completing the project within two years. The project would be run on the public private partnership (PPP) mode.

Nearly 3,500 to 4,000 new vehicles are added to Jammu roads every month. In 2014 alone, nearly 40,000 vehicles were registered in Jammu, taking the district’s total vehicular population to nearly six lakh. Nearly 100 to 150 new vehicles per day are being registered in Jammu and non-availability of adequate parking space has been causing chaos on city roads.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today announced to take up all held-up flyover projects in the city under the second phase of funding from Asian Development Bank (ADB).

He also emphasised upon expediting work on commissioning the Bahu Fort Ropeway, beautification of Tawi Riverfront and the restoration of the Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex.
