Opposition dubs 6-month rule of PDP-BJP govt as ‘disappointing’

As the PDP-BJP coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir completed its six months in office on Tuesday, the Opposition termed the tenure as a period of “disappointment” and said expectations of the people in the state remain unfulfilled.

Opposition dubs 6-month rule of PDP-BJP govt as 'disappointing'“The six months of this government has been six months of disillusionment, disappointment, discontent and disgruntlement,” said Devender Singh Rana, Provincial president of the main Opposition party National Conference (NC).

The pre-poll promises made by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party have fallen flat and the coalition seems to be not concerned with welfare of the people, he said.

“In their agenda of alliance they had promised of reconciliation between Jammu and Kashmir but in fact it is being perceived that it has become a design to further create division between the both the regions,” Rana said.

He further alleged that in the past six months institutions have been demolished, bureaucracy has been shattered and youth was frustrated with unemployment.

“Development has come to a standstill and the economy is in shambles, the internal security is under threat,” he said adding that hopes and aspirations of the people have been shattered as there was virtually no government in the state.

“The tenure of the PDP-BJP government has been full of doubts, tall promises falling flat, loud rhetoric contradictions and confusions,” he said.

Congress legislative party leader Nawang Rigzin Jora dubbed as “total failure” the six-month rule of PDP-BJP.

“People are absolutely disillusioned by the failure of this government. People had lot of expectations as there was Modi sarkar in the centre but look how the people continue to suffer, not a single penny has been sanctioned for the victims of the floods of 2014,” Jora said.

Citing the recent voluntary retirement by state Chief Secretary Mohammad Iqbal Khandey, Jora said that the government was in tussle with the bureaucracy.

“See what the outgoing chief secretary has just said, he said that this government does not need a chief secretary but a stenographer. Their six months have been a total failure,” he said.

CPI (M) leader M Y Tarigami said the state witnessed

serious floods in September 2014 and expected the new government would do something for the flood affected people but nothing has happened.

“People had lot of expectations from this government but their delivery level is too poor,” he said.

The CPI(M) leader further said that there has been an increase in the rate of unemployment and alleged that employees were not being paid their wages.

“Leave new recruitments, the people who are already working have not been paid their wages, corruption has increased to a new level,” Tarigami said.

He said that the promises made in the agenda of alliances remain unfulfilled and there was no headway in the promise of getting back the power projects from the NHPC.

“There has been rise in infiltration, rise in militancy in the state, there has been increase in militancy-related incidents, these are some of the achievements of this present government,” he said.

Echoing similar views National Panthers Party chairman Harsh Dev Singh said that the present government has been soft towards militancy which has given rise to the militancy related incidents in the state.

“Militancy has increased, Pakistan flags are being hoisted, ISIS is the new phenomenon in the Valley which was never heard of in the state,” Singh alleged.

Terming the performance of the government in the past six months as “utter failure”, he said that the government has increased the wedge between the two regions of Jammu and Kashmir.

“Corruption is at its peak now, see the transfers which are being done without following any transfer policies,” he alleged.
