The Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission, the highest recruitment body for government jobs in the State, has collected more than rupees four crore from aspirants who have applied for different posts advertised in last less than two years, a reply under RTI Act has revealed.
The Public Information Officer of PSC, in reply to a query from RTI activist, Raman Sharma, has revealed that in its account at Amirakadal branch of J&K Bank, the commission has collected rupees 3,48,92,832 against sale of application forms for different posts from 01/01/2014 to 13/09/2015.
In his communication, the manager of the branch has also informed that the said amount indicated has been deposited in commission’s account number CD 3013 while during the same period the branch has also received service charges to the tune of Rs 1,16,840.
Meanwhile, as per the reply, an amount of rupees 50,88,034 has been deposited by the applicants in the Commission’s bank account at Rail Head Complex, Jammu branch during the same period.
It is pertinent to mention here that there has been a vide spread demand from political parties, social activists, parents and the student community to reduce the fees charged by the JKPSC from unemployed youth and aspiring candidates for different kinds of posts and examinations.
While commenting on the information provided by the JKPSC and the revelation that such a huge amount is collected by the commission from the aspiring candidates on the name of examination fees, the information seeker Raman Sharma urged the Chairman and members of the Commission to waive off all exam form fees for all female candidates and the candidates belonging to economically weaker sections of the society.
He also said that the motive of such esteemed institution should not be to mint money but rather to enhance its qualitative activities.
