A policeman was caught facilitating copying in examination at Higher Secondary School, Marwah, in Kishtwar district. The incident has put a question mark on the functioning of the School Education Department and preparation of the J&K Board of School Education to conduct examinations in a free and fair manner.
Several photographs and a video were shot when a J&K policeman was seen helping candidates during Class X bi-annual examination being held at the school.
Though the Director General of Police has ordered immediate suspension of the policeman on request from Minister for Education Naeem Akhter, the issue doesn’t die there. Still at many places in the state, the education scenario is a shambles and whatever steps the government takes remain limited to accessible areas.
Marwah is one of the most inaccessible areas of the state. People in this part remain deprived of proper road and telecommunication connectivity and officials posted in the are are relying on satellite phones to communicate with their senior officers sitting in Kishtwar town.
“We have also received these photographs and I have already sent a wireless message to in the charge principal and zonal education officer concerned to look into the allegations. Once I get the response from my officers, an inquiry will be initiated and action will be taken against officials concerned,” said Abdul Hamid, Chief Education Officer (CEO), Kishtwar.
At the same time he showed helplessness in remaining in touch with his officials in such far-off areas where they have no communication facilities available. “I was in Marwah last week to look after the examination process, but being a CEO, I have to look after other areas of the district also,” Abdul Hamid said.
Meanwhile, following complaints against a policeman facilitating copying in Class X bi-annual examination, DGP K Rajendra has ordered immediate suspension of the accused policeman from the service.
An official spokesperson said the alleged involvement of the policeman in facilitating copying was brought to the notice of Akhter by some locals who had forwarded a video clip of the misconduct of the policeman to the minister as a proof.
Akhter immediately took up the matter with the DGP seeking disciplinary action against the accused policeman. “The DGP has placed the accused policeman under suspension pending inquiry and if the charges are proved, the policeman will be dismissed from the service,” Akhter said.
