Shutdown in Kashmir Over Trucker’s Death, Curfew Clamped

Separatist Hurriyat Conference, JKLF and traders have called for strike on Monday after 19-year-old Zahid Rasool Bhat, a trucker, succumbs to his injuries in Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital on Sunday.

Shutdown in Kashmir Over Trucker’s Death, Curfew ClampedZahid, a resident of Botengoo, Bijebehara in Anantnag district, was conductor of the truck that was on way to Kashmir when a mob attacked it with petrol bombs on October 9. The driver of the truck, Showkat Ahmad, was also injured and is admitted to Safdarjung hospital, Delhi.

The two along with a cleaner were sleeping inside the truck at the time of the incident. The cleaner, Rameez, escaped unhurt as he managed to jump out of the truck when mob first broke the front glass and threw patrol bomb inside.

The truck was stationary near Shiv Nagar area as traffic on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was stopped in view of strike in Udhampur following recovery of three carcasses of animals in the district.

Zahid, who was admitted to the burns ward of Safdarjung Hospital, Delhi with 74 per cent burns, breathed his last at 11.30 a.m. after his condition worsened.He was soon shifted to Delhi airport by family and J&K independent MLA Engineer Rashid.

“Another inocent youth has been murdered by RSS goons and govt is watching as mute specatator” Rashid said to newsworld.in.

On his arival Zahid’s boidy was receieved by PDP president Mehboooba Mufti and other senior PDP ministers, where from it was shifted to his native village in South Kashmir.

Meanwhile as a precautionary measure, state government has imposed curfew like restrictions in parts of Srinagar city and other sensitive areas to thwart protests.

Kashmir University and Jammu and Kashmir State Board of School Education (BOSE) have postponed exams scheduled Monday.

Islamic University of Science and Technology has postponed its first ever convocation.

Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested Nine persons for tfor attacking the truck in which Zahid was killed. Five accused have been booked under Public Safety Act (PSA).
