Srinagar recorded the coldest night of the season as the mercury dipped at most places in the Valley on Thursday.
A weather department official said Srinagar recorded a minimum of minus 3.7 degrees Celsius, down by over a degree from previous night’s minus 2.6 degrees Celsius.
He said it was the lowest night temperature in the city so far this season.
According to the official, the minimum temperature across Kashmir division, except the ski-resort of Gulmarg, continued to hover below the freezing point owing to continuous dry weather.
He said Kupwara was the coldest recorded place in the state as the mercury settled at the low of minus 4.5 degrees Celsius compared to minus 3.3 degrees Celsius yesterday.
Pahalgam hill resort in south Kashmir recorded a low of minus 3.8 degrees Celsius against yesterday’s minus 3 degrees Celsius.
The official said world famous famous ski-resort of Gulmarg was the only place where night temperature was recorded above freezing point at 1.4 degrees Celsius.
He said Qazigund registered a minimum of minus 3 degrees Celsius, while nearby Kokernag town recorded the low of minus 2.2 degree Celsius.
The night temperature in Leh settled at a low of minus 3 degrees Celsius, an increase of over five degrees from previous night’s minus 8.3 degrees Celsius, the official said.
The MeT office has forecast rain in the plains and snowfall in the higher reaches for at least two days from Sunday.
