As killings continue in Kashmir, the Valley observed a complete shutdown on Monday to mourn the killings.
Traffic is off the roads while all the business establishments remain shut. All the educational across have also been closed across Kashmir.
Kashmir Post’s Anantnag correspondent informed that a complete shutdown is being observed across the Anantnag district while traffic is also off the roads.
He said that heavy deployment of government forces has been made in the district to thaw any protests.
Kashmir Post’s Bandipora correspondent informed that a complete shutdown is being observed in the district.
Kashmir Post’s Baramulla correspondent said that a complete shutdown is being observed in Baramulla district. All the business establishments in the district remain shut.
He said that a complete shutdown is being observed in Sopore, Baramulla, Pattan, Palhallan, Kreeri and Rafiabad areas of the district Baramulla with traffic off the roads. All business establishments, schools and offices are closed. Additional forces have been deployed at volatile Palhallan area of Baramulla.
No untoward incident was reported from anywhere in the district when this report was filed.
Kashmir Post’s Pulwama/Shopian correspondent informed Newsroom that a complete shutdown is being observed in both the districts.
He said heavy deployment of government forces has been made at all the sensitive places in both the district where five civilians and five militants were killed on Sunday, making it one of the bloodiest days in the recent history of Kashmir.
Umar Raina from central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district informed Newsroom that a complete shutdown is being observed across the district.
He said that all the shops and business establishments are closed in the district.
Internet services across Kashmir have also been snapped to stop the spread of rumours.
Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) – compromising of Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik have called foe secretariat challo today in view of the killings.
On May 06, Sunday, five militants and five were killed by government forces in Shopian and Kulgam districts of southern part of Kashmir during an encounter in Badigam village of Shopian.
The slain militants were identified as top militant commander, Saddam Padder, Dr Muhammad Rafi Bhat, who gave up his job as Assistant Professor to join militancy, Tawseef Ahmed Sheikh, Adil Malik and Bilal Moulvi. All the five militants belonged to the HM militant outfit. The slain civilians were identified as Adil Ahmed of Ashmuji Kulgam, Zubair Ahmed of Ayandgund Rajpora Pulwama, Sajad Rather a resident of Shahpora Dooru at Anantnag district, Nisar Ahmed of Arihal Pulwama and Asif Ahmed Mir of Rahmoo Pulwama. At least 121 youth were injured in clashes with the forces after the gunfight at Badigam.
On May 05, Saturday, three LeT militants, and a local youth were killed while three CRPF men including an assistant commandant were injured in a gunfight in Gassi Mohalla of Chattabal area of Srinagar.
One LeT militant was identified as Fayaz Ahmad Hamaal of Khankah-e-Moula, Fatehkadal of Srinagar while another LeT militant was identified as Showkat Ahmad Tak son of Ghulam Hassan Tak, resident of Panzgam, Pulwama.
Third LeT was not identified by the Police.
A youth, identified as Adil Ahmad of Safa-Kadal, was also crushed to death by a police vehicle during clashes in Noorbagh area of downtown Srinagar.
Also, at least 24 youth were injured in clashes between forces and protestors near the gunfight site at Chattabal area of Srinagar.
Three photojournalists Farooq Javed Khan of EPA, Javed Dar of Xinhua News Agency and Omar Asif of Kashmir News Service were also injured near the SMHS, Hospital after the Jammu Kashmir Police snatched the dead body of Adil Ahmad.
Meanwhile, Internet blockade continued in Srinagar on third consecutive day on Monday, even as the government offices opened at civil secretariat in summer capital Srinagar as part of bi-ennial durbar move.
As part of the practice, state’s bureaucracy and ministers returned to Srinagar after spending harshest winter period in Jammu.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti received the traditional guard of honour.
However, Internet continues to be suspended on the third successive day after it was snapped following Chattabal gunfight in the heart of city that left three militants including a Srinagar resident dead.
In the subsequent clashes, a protestor was mowed down by a police vehicle in Noorbagh area of the old city. A video of the incident had gone viral on social media websites, sparking outrage.
Train service has been suspended for the second day on Monday for security reasons in the Kashmir valley in view of killing by the government forces and a shutdown call given by the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL).
Authorities Monday imposed restrictions in parts of Srinagar city and many other areas in Valley on to foil the protest march and a sit in outside civil secretariat called by Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) against the civilian and militant killings in district Shopian.
As already reported the Civil Secretariat that houses the offices of the Chief Minister, her colleagues and senior bureaucrats is opening on Monday after a six-month sojourn in Jammu.
Authorities have placed Syed Ali Shah Geelani the Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman and the Mirwaiz Molvi Umar Farooq the Hurriyat Conference (M) Chairman under house arrest. JKLF Chairman Yaseen Malik has been already taken into preventive detection. A complete shutdown called by Joint Resistance Leadership is being observed all over valley.
All educational institutions have been shut in the valley. Exams scheduled for Monday were postponed.
Rail services were also suspended as a precautionary measure.
Mobile internet services remained suspended in all South Kashmir districts since Sunday in addition to Srinagar and Ganderbal districts in the north of the valley.
Security have been deployed in the areas where restrictions and also at other law and order vulnerable places.
