Former PDP Panch, Cop among 3 killed in south Kashmir

A former panch of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and a policeman are among three people killed in south Kashmir in last 24 hours.
Police said unknown fired from point blank range towards former PDP panch Ghulam Rasool Ganaie at his shop in Nambal village in Mattan area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
Ganaie sustained critical bullet injuries and was evacuated to hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Immediate after the incident took place, police and paramilitary forces launched a combing and search operation in the area to nab the attackers.
Meanwhile, militants shot dead a policeman in Awantipora area of Pulwama district last night.
A police spokesman said Aashiq Ahmad, posted as Munshi in local police station, was shot at by militants while he was returning from the marriage ceremony of a relative at Padgampora in Awantipora, last night.
He said the injured cop was taken to a hospital where he succumbed to injuries.
Police today recovered bullet- riddled body of a man, who was abducted by unknown gunmen two days ago from Vessu area of Kulgam district.
“Body of Showkat Ahmad Dar (22), a resident of Arwani in Bijbehara area of Anantnag district, was found by police this morning in Vessu area,” a police official said.
He said Dar’s body had several bullet injuries.
Dar was kidnapped by unknown gunmen from his village on October 1.
Police blamed Lashkar-e-Toiba for killing of the civilian.
“The Lashkar militants Sakoor and Azad Dada are behind his killing and a manhunt has been launched to track them down,” a police spokesman said.
