Migrant Kashmiri Pandits demand concrete rehabilitation plan

A day after Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s visit to Jammu and Kashmir, displaced Kashmiri Pandits have demanded a concrete action plan for the rehabilitation of 3.50 lakh Hindus, living as refugees in their own country.
The All State Kashmiri Pandit Conference and the Panun Kashmir, which were part of the delegation which met the Home Minister, said the Centre had failed to fulfil the promises made to the community.
“The settlement of Pandits is a serious issue and it must draw an honest concern from both Central and state governments,” said Ravinder Raina, president, All State Kashmiri Pandit Conference. “Giving mere eight minutes to the delegation of 16 members (to speak to the Home Minister) shows the seriousness towards the issues concerning Hindus, who were forced to leave their homeland in 1989-90,” said Raina.
Meanwhile, the Panun Kashmir has said the rehabilitation of 3.50 lakh Pandits is only possible when a separate homeland is carved out in the Valley for the community as per the Margdarshan resolution of 1991.
“The separatists have rejected all plans formulated for the return of Hindus to the Valley. Our community, which faced ethnic cleansing, is referred to as migrants in official documents, which is a clear case of denial by the government of a well-planned conspiracy to evict the minorities,” said Ajay Chrangoo, chairman, Panun Kashmir.
