Schools to hold classes in localities to make up for loss

Schools to hold classes in localities to make up for lossAs the unrest in the Valley has entered the fourth week without any signs of an end, private schools have decided to hold compensatory classes for students in all the localities across Kashmir.
The president of the Joint Committee of Private Schools, GN War, said they were getting repeated calls from parents that their children were losing track of studies which forced them to come with an alternative.
“We are requesting all the mohalla committees and religious preachers to make announcements in their respective areas so that schoolteachers can hold classes for the students whose studies have suffered in the last four weeks,” said GN War.
War said they had been in touch with parents, teachers and committees to find out a way to compensate the loss of studies.
“We have decided to hold classes at the community level to compensate the losses till the things return to normalcy. We are also in touch with parents and different mohalla committees,” he said. “We have 50,000 private schoolteachers in the whole Valley. We want to utilise their services so that the students do not lag behind in studies,” he said.
Another member of the association said they had communicated to Separatist leaders also to announce that spaces in localities be created for tuition classes of the students who had been sitting at home from the last 23 days after the unrest started in the Valley.
The current unrest in the Valley started on July 9 after the killing of militant commander Burhan Wani in South Kashmir. With no signs of an end to the unrest, uncertainty prevails regarding the studies of students in Kashmir. Shutdown and curfew have been continuing in the Valley for the last 23 days. Schools are shut. Colleges are closed. Universities have delayed their admissions and examinations.
The unrest has affected 15 lakh school students. According to the figures by the Directorate of School Education, Kashmir (DSEK), there are total 11,766 government schools in Kashmir. The number of private schools is 2,610.
