Chief Minister was in dark about operation Burhan, says Baig

Chief Minister was in dark about operation Burhan, says BaigSenior People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader and Member of Parliament Muzaffar Hussain Baig has asked Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to appoint a high-level commission to probe the killing of militant commander Burhan Wani and the civilian killings that followed.
“The gunfight in which Burhan was killed was carried out in violation of Supreme Court guidelines,” claimed Baig. “As per the Supreme Court judgment, whenever an operation is carried out, a magistrate has to be taken along. Then, in his presence, the militants have to be appealed to in the local language to surrender,” he said.
“If the militants refuse to surrender, teargas has to be fired so that militants come out from where they are hiding. If it doesn’t work, the militants have to be fired at on the lower parts of the body. I don’t think that these guidelines have been followed by security forces,” he added.
“The Chief Minister should appoint a high-level commission to look into Burhan killing and other civilian killings that followed,” Baig said.
The MP claimed that the Chief Minister was not taken into confidence when the operation to kill Burhan was launched.
