Kashmiris started fighting oppression from 29 April 1865: Mirwaiz

‘India can’t crush our movement through military approach’

Kashmiris started fighting oppression from 29 April 1865 - MirwaizHurriyat Conference (M) Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Friday said the era of “barbarism, suppression and tyranny” was not new to Kashmiris but had been going on for the past 300 years and the killing spree had started when 28 Kashmiris were killed by Dogra Army on April 29, 1865.

Addressing Friday congregation prayers at Jamia Masjid Srinagar, Mirwaiz said, “April 29 is an important day for the Kashmir struggle as it is on this day that for the first time 28 Kashmiris sacrificed their lives to fight the barbarism and oppression of tyrant Maharajas.”

He said it was first time that Kashmiris started their struggle against the oppression and the oppressors had been ruling Kashmiris for the past 300 years.

Mirwaiz said Kashmiris had given enormous sacrifices to fight the oppression for the past 300 years.

“The next round of carnage was carried out against employees of Silk Factory,” he said. “Then the massacres continued in Hawal, Khanyar, Gaw Kadal, Bijbehara, Chattisinghpora and lakhs of Kashmiris have been killed by tyrant rulers so far.”

He said all the rulers – Sikhs, Afghans, Dogras continued to suppress Kashmiris till 1947.

“The new era of suppression of Kashmir started from 1947 in which unfortunately, people who claim to be our own people, collaborated with the oppressors,” he said taking dig at PDP and NC.

“Lakhs of people have been killed by the India forces since 1947 and these politicians, who claim to be our own men, are equally responsible for this bloodshed and killings,” he said.

However, Mirwaiz asserted that the struggle started by Kashmiris 300 years ago would be taken to its logical conclusion.

“India must understand that it cannot crush this movement by the military approach,” he said. “The more India tries to crush this movement with suppression, atrocities and military approach, the more it will get stronger.”

He alleged that video of Handwara girl was taken forcibly to divert attention of people from the civilian killings at Handwara by troops.

Mirwaiz also paid rich tributes to JKLF co-founder Amanuallah Khan, who passed away in Pakistan on April 26.
