Teachers under scanner, told to give results or face action

Teachers under scanner, told to give results or face actionTwo days after the Directorate School Education, Kashmir, suspended the entire teaching staff of a school in Srinagar for “callousness”, the officials today issued a circular to all the institutions directing teachers to perform or face action.
The circular has been issued after the officials of the Education Department paid a surprise visit to Government Girls High School in Bemina on March 25 and found all the teachers resting in the staff room even as more than hundred students were sitting idle.
Director, School Education, Kashmir, Shah Faesal today said intensified academic monitoring was required to bring accountability among the teachers in government-run schools.
“Since the focus is on developing learning competencies, it’s not enough that teachers come to school just to mark their attendance. They will have to show results. We have issued a circular to all the schools in this regard. The schools will have to get their tour diaries attested by cluster heads to get salary,” said the Director.
Officials said attendance of teachers remained the primary focus during inspection of various schools across the Valley.
“If children don’t acquire minimum learning competencies, action will be taken against the whole staff. Teachers must focus on developing minimum learning levels, particularity in English maths and science. They must make assessment and intervene immediately,” said an official.
Pointing at the pathetic state of affairs at the Bemina school, the official said: “Cleanliness of the school, discipline, nature of the time-table are other factors on which school teams shall be judged.”
The department from the last few months has been taking different measures to reform the education system in the government schools and bring accountability among teachers.
The officials said strict action would be taken against people who take their duty for granted.
