Government on cardsJ&K Governor N N Vohra on Tuesday cancelled a crucial meeting of the State Administrative Council that was convened to give nod to the Budget, sources said.
Another meeting—scheduled with political parties two days later—to discuss the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) election was also put off, they disclosed.
Highly placed sources told KP that SAC headed by Governor NN Vohra and comprising his advisors, Parvez Dewan and Khurshid Ganie, was scheduled to meet at Civil Secretariat Jammu this morning to clear the Budget proposals.
However, the meeting was cancelled at the eleventh hour, with officials remaining tightlipped about the cancellation reasons.
The budget for next fiscal or Vote-on Account had to be passed on or before March 31. The SAC had already decided to go for the full-budget instead of opting for the Vote-on-Account.
The meeting was cancelled at a time when PDP and BJP are warming up to each to revive the government which ceased to exist following Mufti Muhammad Sayeed’s death on January 7.
In a move to reach out to PDP, Union Finance Minister ArunJaitley had told the Parliament on Monday that Centre was willing to walk an extra mile for Jammu and Kashmir and assured equitable development of all three regions of the State.
In another related development, the Governor has also put off his meeting with political parties, scheduled on Thursday, to discuss the Urban Local Bodies polls, sources said.
The Governor’s administration, according to sources, had sent invitation letters to Dr Farooq Abdullah (NC president), Mehbooba Mufti (PDP president), Sat Sharma (state president BJP), Ghulam Ahmad Mir (State Congress President) and SajjadGani Lone (Peoples Conference chairman) for attending the meet.
Muhammad Yusuf Tarigami, Er. Abdur Rashid, Hakim Muhammad Yasin—all legislators—were also invited for the discussions.
Sources however said the meeting has been postponed and the invitees have been conveyed that a fresh date for the same will be notified later.
