Domestic violence cases on rise in JammuDomestic violence cases in Jammu seem to be on the rise as registration of such cases in the women cell here has seen an upward trend during the last four years.
As per the data obtained from the women cell, Jammu, more than 4,100 complaints were received here from 2012 to 2015 and the highest number of complaints was received in 2015.
“During 2012, we received 924 complaints and we made complainants and accused arrive at a compromise in 888 cases. Only 36 cases were registered for further process,” said Arti Thakur, in charge, women cell.
She said similarly, in 2013, 973 complaints were registered and out of them, 920 were disposed of at initial stage and 53 cases were registered where compromise was not possible. “During 2014, the number of complaints reached 1,128, out of which 1,010 cases were disposed of and 118 were registered,” she said.
“In 2015, the highest number of complaints 1,156 were received by the women cell and 842 of them were disposed of, 59 were registered and 255 are still pending. There is no pendency of cases from 2012 to 2014,” she said.
Thakur said despite the fact that the women cell police stations had been opened in Kathua, Udhampur and Rajouri-Poonch areas, still many complaints were registered with the women cell, Jammu.
