Anniversaries of Bhat and Guroo - Series of protests in SrinagarDifferent separatist organizations Monday staged protest marches in Srinagar city seeking the mortal remains of Muhammad Afzal Guroo and Muhammad Maqbool Bhat back from Government of India.

Separatist organizations including Democratic Freedom Party, Mahaz-e-Azadi and Jammu Kashmir Mass Movement also staged protests seeking the mortal remains of Guroo and Bhat from Government of India. Police arrested Mass Movement Chairperson Fareeda Behanji and her other party workers including Molvi Bashir, Fayaz Ahmed, Mehmooda Baji and Abdul Rasheed when they took out a procession from Abi Guzar. “Government of India denied the family of Guroo their basic right by hanging him without informing them. They must hand over the mortal remains of these martyrs to the people of Kashmir,” Fareeda Behanji told CNS.

Jammu Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party also staged a protest march in Rawalpora Santnagar. The protest was led by Advocate Fayaz Ahmed Sodagar and Engineer Farooq Ahmed. The protesters said that the best tribute to Muhammad Maqbool Bhat and Muhammad Afzal Guroo is to take their mission forward. “We owe a lot to Bhat to Guroo and we salute them for their bravery and sacrifices,” DFP said.

Mahaz-i-Azadi Jammu Kashmir led by Shabir Ahmed Dar and Muhammad Iqbal Mir and Chairman International Forum for Justice chairman Muhammad Ahsan Untoo also organized a protest at Press Enclave Srinagar. The leaders said that it is the duty and obligation of people of Kashmir to take the mission of Bhat and Guroo to logical conclusion.

Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik was arrested after he along with workers tried to take out a march from party headquarters located at Abi Guzar Srinagar. Police lodged Malik and his associates in Khoti Bagh Police Station.

Meanwhile, police detained several separatist leaders to bar them from participating in proposed Feb 9 protest marches. DMP spokesperson Yar Muhammad Khan said that the party chief coordinator Shakil Ahmed Bhat was arrested after police raided his Malik Angan Fathe Kadal residence. (CNS)
