Government committed to inclusive growth of Ladakh, says Deputy CM

Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh today said the government was committed to the comprehensive development of Ladakh so that the people of the desert region get all modern housing and educational facilities and other related amenities.

Minister of State for Information, Education and Culture Priya Sethi, Councillor from the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh, Drokpa Thukse Rinpoche and several prominent citizens, intellectuals and academia were present on the occasion.
Referring to Ladakh as the pride of India, Singh said the government was committed to accelerating the development of the region and a special dispensation under the Prime Minister’s Reconstruction Plan would be provided to the region under various sectors such as tourism, power, housing and education so that the people of the region get benefitted.
The Deputy CM said Rs 9,000 crore had been sanctioned for the Zojila tunnel which would ensure all-year connectivity of the region with the rest of the state. This would go a long way in boosting the tourism and economic activities of Ladakh, he added.
Responding to demands of Ladakhi students, the Deputy CM said the provision of teaching more subjects in the satellite campus of the University of Kashmir at Leh would be taken up with the authorities. He further said the government would also provide land for the construction of a hostel for the Ladakhi students studying in Jammu.
