Snowfall brings joy to tourists

As Kashmir plains received this winter’s first snowfall, it has brought cheers to tourists visiting Valley at this time.

Though the road leading to Sonamarg is closed owing to slippery road conditions and chances of slides along the route, the tourists are seen enjoying snow at Gagengar, a village few kilometers ahead of Sonamarg.
All the business establishments including hotels, restaurants, shops get closed in early December in view of the heavy snowfall the area receives during winters.
“We are enjoying the snowfall. We feel lucky that we witnessed it this time,” a tourist from Delhi said.
Another tourist from Banglore said they visited Kashmir to see snow.
“We were here for couple of days. We wanted to see snow on mountains but now we can see it here also. The snowfall has brought joy to us,” he said.
Hoteliers and ponywallas are also expecting good business after the snowfall.
“Tourists always love snow and we expect good number of tourists to come now,” Musadiq Ahmad, owner of Hotel Glacier Heights at Gagengar said.
A ponywall Shabir Ahmad are also hopeful of good tourist influx to Kashmir.
“We hope that tourist will visit Sonamarg which will boost our daily earnings. Tourism is only source of earning livelihood at Sonamarg,” said Shabir.
